Hector Onboarding Sessions (currently offered)
We’re currently running introductory sessions on ROS 2 and our software stack to help new members get started. If robotics excites you and our profile sounds like you, come to one of our onboarding sessions to meet us in person.
The sessions take place on Tuesdays at 4PM (16:00 Uhr) and on Fridays at 2PM (14:00 Uhr) in our lab (SIM Labor, S103, Raum 014 (AHG), Altes Hauptgebäude). Feel free to drop by at either one.
What we do
Team Hector develops robot hardware and highly portable open-source software for ground and aerial vehicles with various applications in mind, such as urban search and rescue and remote inspection of industrial sites.
We work in the fields of:
- Artificial Intelligence for autonomous robots
- Simultaneous Localization and Mapping
- Path Planning
- Perception (2D & 3D)
- Manipulation
- Whole-body Planning
- Autonomous Behavior
- Human Machine Interfaces (UI)
- Simulation of robotics systems
- Hardware and electrical design of mobile robots and payloads
- Design of mechanical components and embedded systems
- Manufacturing of hardware components
- CAD, 3D Printing, PCB-Design
- Testing and evaluating robots and components
- Software Engineering
- ROS 2 development and packaging
- Continuous Integration & Deployment (CI/CD)
Our systems combine model-based and deep-learning approaches, tested extensively in simulation and on real robots, and have been successfully demonstrated in international competitions.
How can you participate?
We regularly offer bachelor / master theses, projects and seminars that you can integrate into your studies (Integriertes Robotik Projekt 1 & 2, Robotik-Projektseminar für Mechatronik).
If you’re interested in writing a thesis with us, please see SIM - Thesis for information on how to apply.
On demand, we may also have open paid HiWi positions (student assistant).
However, you can also participate voluntarily and profit from the team’s vast experience in the robotics field and get a chance to participate in international competitions.
You can also add to the team by providing additional skills not traditionally seen in robotics, like Media, PR, social engagement and management.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for new members in advanced Bachelor semesters, Master students, or those with previous robotics experience. Expertise in software development, electronics, or mechanical design is particularly valuable to our work.
Interested?
Send us a mail at with a short note about your skills and interests, or stop by one of our onboarding sessions to say hi and learn more.
